Rockin' Around Europe 1958 - Rock & Roll Conquers Europe

Auteur: Klass Kettner
Édition en Anglais (2024)
Munich author and scene activist Klaus Kettner publishes the ultimate chronicle of the rock'n'roll revolution in Europe, on occasion of the first tour of the US pioneers Bill Haley And His Comets - hardcover book with 328 pages (21.5 x 30.5 cm) including audio CD, English version, with hundreds of mostly unpublished photos and documents on Hydra Records. Even before the term "rock'n'roll" became common, Bill Haley was already singing its ultimate anthem "Rock Around The Clock" in 1954. He was the first to present the brand new scandalous sound with his Comets on a live tour in Europe in 1958, followed by international headlines full of indignation about the riots and unrest that the wild musical style provoked. Completely unimaginable today, rock'n'roll was a huge provocation for the entire social establishment of the post-war period. Klaus Kettner, born in Munich in 1965, saw the Haley film “Out of Control” when he was just 11 years old. Since then, he has been an internationally respected Haley expert as a fan, record collector, label operator, scene activist and, not least, manager of the reunited Comets for 27 years. In his book, he uses the 1958 European tour to trace the birth years of the new popular music and the associated social and societal earthquakes in detail. Of course, numerous exclusive photos from Kettner's museum collection are a central part of this manifesto.
